Introduction: Nansha, Guangzhou, the geometric center of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, once again witnessed a "moment of resonance between ideas and innovation" as the 2025 Greater Bay Area Science Forum kicked off here. With the theme of "Industry·Research Integration Drives Smart Innovation in the GBA", this forum aims to build an innovation ecosystem with deep integration of "government, industry, academia, research and application", explore practical paths for the synchronous resonance of scientific and technological innovation and industrial transformation, and serve the Greater Bay Area to enhance its capacity for scientific and technological innovation origination, deepen international scientific and technological cooperation, and promote high-quality development.

As the only innovative section focusing on the deep integration of humanities and science & technology and highlighting "integration of industry and research", the sub-forum "Dialogue on Technological Civilization and Co-Building Happiness" of the Greater Bay Area Science Forum has attracted particular attention. Reporter: This year's Greater Bay Area Science Forum emphasizes "Industry·Research Integration Drives Smart Innovation in the GBA". Under this overall framework, what mission and positioning does the sub-forum "Dialogue on Technological Civilization and Jointly Building Happiness" undertake?

Cui Yiting: The sub-forum "Dialogue on Technological Civilization and Co-Building Happiness" is overall planned by the main forum. It is the only core section focusing on the deep integration of humanities and science & technology and implementing the "integration of industry and research", with a focus on creating systematic new ecological scenarios for accelerating the transformation of scientific and technological achievements into real productive forces and people's happy lives.

On the one hand, under the overall goal of "Industry·Research Integration Drives Smart Innovation in the GBA" of the 2025 Greater Bay Area Science Forum, the sub-forum closely centers on an era question—how to make "ensuring people live a happy life" truly the ultimate direction of scientific and technological progress in today's era of rapid technological development. The main forum requires this sub-forum to implement the spirit of President Xi's important speech that "whether it is family affairs, state affairs or world affairs, ensuring people live a happy life is the top priority" throughout the entire process of the sub-forum's functional positioning, topic design, mechanism arrangement and scenario implementation.

On the other hand, the sub-forum "Dialogue on Technological Civilization and Co-Building Happiness" of the Greater Bay Area Science Forum connects cutting-edge original achievements of scientific research institutions and the scientific community on one end, and industrial resources and real application scenarios of the business community on the other.Through institutional design and mechanism innovation, it closely links the "basic research-technological breakthrough—achievement transformation—urban scenario application"chain, forming a complete closed loop from technological breakthrough to people's livelihood implementation, and directly answering the fundamental proposition of  "for whom to innovate in science and technology and how innovation benefits people".

Reporter: From forum philosophy to practical operation, how does the sub-forum truly bring "Technological Civilization and Co-Building Happiness" to cities and people?

Cui Yiting: Our approach can be summarized into two main lines: one is the value orientation, making technology carry the "temperature of happiness"; the other is the implementation path, turning this value orientation into visible and usable realistic scenarios through a whole set of new quality productive forces scenarios.

From the perspective of value orientation, the birth of the sub-forum "Technological Civilization and Co-Building Happiness" under the advanced, forward-looking and systematic planning of the Greater Bay Area Science Forum directly reflects the deep concern of local Party committees and governments for people's livelihood and well-being in governance practice—it firmly binds the direction of technological development with people's aspirations for a better life, and implements the original aspiration of "seeking happiness for the masses and increasing momentum for development" into specific work through solid institutional arrangements and scenario projects.

Here, the government's policy support based on joint consultation, construction and sharing, the innovation supply of scientific research institutions, the market power of the business community and the collaborative participation of social organizations are presented. We will upgrade the forum from a one-time conference and exchange event to a regular hub for collaborative innovation and achievement transformation, responding to the forum’s deployment of building a full-process innovation ecosystem chain of "basic research + technological breakthroughs + achievement industrialization".

Journalist:Standing on the major national strategic platform of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), what are the expectations and plans for the sub-forum in the future?

Cui Yiting:Everything we do is an effort to implement two core guidelines under the overall framework of the Greater Bay Area Science Forum: one is the clear requirement put forward by President Xi during his inspection tour of Guangdong this year, which is to strengthen the leading role of scientific and technological innovation and accelerate the development of new quality productive forces; the other is the systematic deployment of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), which emphasizes leading the construction of a modern industrial system through scientific and technological innovation and fostering strategic emerging industries and future industries.

In the next step, with the guidance and support of government departments at all levels and the Alliance of National and International Science Organizations for the Belt and Road Regions(ANSO) framework, and within the framework of the Greater Bay Area Science Forum, we hope to pool the joint efforts of the scientific community, industrial sector, financial sector and all sectors of society. We will work together to build an open, ecological and scenario-based international collaboration platform that spans disciplines, industries, cultures and regions, promote the deep integration of scientific and technological innovation with humanistic spirit, and cultivate and expand new quality productive forces.

We also look forward to refining more institutional innovations and scenario practices originating from the Bay Area into evaluable, replicable and promotable China Solutions.
