Attends the 30th APEC Leaders' Informal Meeting

President Xi Jinping attended the meeting and delivered an important speech titled "Adhering to the original aspiration, uniting and cooperating together to promote high-quality growth in the Asia Pacific region". 

President Xi Jinping pointed out that since the establishment of the APEC Leaders' Regular Meeting Mechanism, it has always been at the forefront of global open development, effectively promoting regional trade and investment liberalization and facilitation, economic and technological development, and material and personnel mobility, creating a world-renowned "Asia Pacific miracle". At present, the century long changes in the world are accelerating and the world economy is facing various risks and challenges. As an engine of global growth, the Asia Pacific bears greater responsibility for the times. As leaders of the Asia Pacific region, we all need to think deeply about what kind of Asia Pacific we want to bring to the middle of this century? How to build the next "golden thirty years" of Asia Pacific development? How can we better leverage the role of APEC in this process?

President Xi Jinping emphasized that we should uphold the original aspiration of Asia Pacific cooperation, respond responsibly to the call of the times, work together to address global challenges, fully implement the Butragaya vision, build an open, dynamic, resilient, and peaceful Asia Pacific community, and achieve common prosperity for the people of the Asia Pacific and future generations.

Firstly, adhere to innovation driven approach. We should actively promote scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation, and work together to create an open, fair, just, and non discriminatory environment for scientific and technological development. Accelerate digital transformation, narrow the digital divide, support the application of new technologies such as big data, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and quantum computing, and continuously shape new driving forces and advantages for the development of the Asia Pacific region. China has proposed initiatives such as the APEC Digital Rural Construction, Enterprise Digital Identity, and the use of digital technology to promote green and low-carbon transformation, in order to better empower the development of the Asia Pacific region.

Secondly, adhere to an open oriented approach. We need to maintain free and open trade and investment, support and strengthen the multilateral trading system centered around the World Trade Organization, maintain the stability and smoothness of the global industrial and supply chains, and oppose politicizing, weaponizing, and making economic and trade issues more secure. We must firmly promote regional economic integration and accelerate the process of advancing the Asia Pacific Free Trade Area. China successfully held the third "the Belt and Road" International Cooperation Summit Forum, injecting new impetus into promoting global connectivity and building an open world economy.　

Thirdly, adhere to green development. We must adhere to the harmonious coexistence of humans and nature, accelerate the green and low-carbon transformation of development methods, and work together to promote carbon reduction, pollution reduction, green expansion, and growth, laying a green foundation for growth in the Asia Pacific region. China adheres to the path of ecological priority and green development, actively and steadily promoting carbon peak and carbon neutrality. We propose cooperation initiatives such as APEC green agriculture, sustainable cities, low-carbon energy transformation, and marine pollution prevention and control to promote the joint construction of a clean and beautiful Asia Pacific.

Fourth, adhere to inclusive sharing. We need to fully implement the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, promote the return of development issues to the center of the international agenda, deepen the alignment of development strategies, and jointly solve the global development deficit. We welcome all parties to actively participate in global development initiatives, deepen cooperation in areas such as poverty reduction, food security, industrialization, and development financing, build a global development community, and allow people from all countries to share the fruits of modernization construction. China will continue to support the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in conducting economic and technological cooperation, and jointly contribute to the development of the Greater Asia Pacific region.

President Xi Jinping stressed that China is comprehensively promoting the great cause of building a strong country and national rejuvenation with Chinese path to modernization. China adheres to the path of peaceful development, high-quality development, and high-level opening up, and uses Chinese path to modernization to provide new opportunities for the modernization of countries around the world. China is willing to work together with all parties to promote more fruitful results in Asia Pacific cooperation and jointly build the next "golden thirty years" of Asia Pacific!

The conference was chaired by US President Biden and the theme was "Creating a resilient and sustainable future for all".

The meeting issued the "2023 APEC Leaders' San Francisco Declaration".
