President Xi Jinping pointed out that this year marks the 45th anniversary of the signing of the China Japan Peace and Friendship Treaty. The treaty has established the overall direction of peace, friendship, and cooperation between China and Japan in legal form, becoming a milestone in the history of bilateral relations. Over the past 45 years, guided by the four political documents between China and Japan, including treaties, the relationship between the two countries has maintained an overall momentum of development despite experiencing ups and downs, bringing benefits to the two peoples and playing a positive role in promoting regional peace, development, and prosperity. The current international situation is turbulent and intertwined, with endless risks and challenges. Peaceful coexistence, generations of friendship, mutually beneficial cooperation, and common development between China and Japan are in line with the fundamental interests of the two peoples. At present, China Japan relations are in a critical period of connecting the past and the future. Both sides should follow the trend of the times, grasp the correct direction, and maintain the spirit of "learning from history and opening up the future". They should maintain the original intention of normalizing diplomatic relations, objectively and rationally view each other's development, establish positive, friendly, and mutual recognition, constructively manage conflicts and differences, and reflect the political consensus of "being partners and not posing a threat to each other" in specific policies and practical actions.

President Xi Jinping emphasized that major issues of principle such as history and Taiwan are related to the political foundation of bilateral relations. Japan must abide by its principles and ensure that the foundation of China Japan relations is not damaged or shaken. The deep integration of economic interests between China and Japan and the supply chain of the industrial chain does not benefit anyone by creating a "small courtyard high wall" or "decoupling and chain breaking". China is promoting high-quality development and high-level opening-up, which will bring unprecedented opportunities to countries around the world, including Japan. Both sides should deepen cooperation, achieve mutual success, effectively maintain the global free trade system, and achieve a higher level of mutual benefit and win-win situation. The two countries should stand on a higher footing, uphold a broader perspective, promote the Asian values centered on peace, cooperation, inclusiveness, and integration, practice true multilateralism, promote open regionalism, promote regional integration, and jointly address global challenges.

President Xi Jinping pointed out that the discharge of nuclear contaminated water from Fukushima in Japan is related to human health, the global marine environment, and the international public interest. The Japanese side should take reasonable concerns at home and abroad seriously and handle them properly with a responsible and constructive attitude.

Fumio Kishida stated that on the important occasion of the 45th anniversary of the signing of the Japan China Peace and Friendship Treaty, the two peoples deeply recall the efforts made by the older generation leaders of the two countries in promoting the development of Japan China friendly relations in a wide range of fields. At present, the international community is at a historic turning point, and Japan hopes to focus on the future, strengthen high-level communication and dialogue with China, increase positive factors in bilateral relations, and adhere to peaceful coexistence. The Japanese side has no intention of "decoupling and disconnecting" from China, and hopes to continue promoting people-to-people and cultural exchanges, deepening practical cooperation in various fields such as the digital economy, green development, finance, healthcare and elderly care. The Japanese side will continue to be committed to the path of peaceful development and adhere to the position of the joint statement between Japan and China to address the Taiwan issue without any change.

Both sides actively evaluate the newly established China Japan Export Control Dialogue Mechanism, agree to maintain dialogue and communication at all levels, timely hold a new round of China Japan Economic High Level Dialogue and China Japan High Level Cultural Exchange Consultation Mechanism meetings, maintain communication and coordination on international and regional affairs, and jointly address global challenges such as climate change. Both parties agree to find a suitable solution to the issue of Fukushima nuclear contaminated water discharge through constructive negotiations.

Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.

Cai Qi, Wang Yi, and others attended the meeting.
