President Xi Jinping meets with Chilean President Boric

On the morning of October 17, President Xi Jinping held talks in the Great Hall of the People with Chilean President Boric, who was in China to attend the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation and pay a state visit.

President Xi Jinping pointed out that Chile is the first South American country to establish diplomatic relations with New China, and also a pioneer of China and Latin America in jointly building the "Belt and Road". Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Chile for over half a century, the bilateral relations have always maintained stable and healthy development. Cooperation in various fields has promoted the development and revitalization of each country and also brought tangible benefits to the two peoples. China and Chile have become good friends of mutual trust and good partners for common development. Under the current situation, China is willing to work with Chile to continue the traditional friendship between the two countries and continuously enrich the contemporary connotation of China Chile's comprehensive strategic partnership.

President Xi Jinping elaborated on the essence of Chinese path to modernization. President Xi Jinping emphasized that China and Chile share the same philosophy and always adhere to mutual respect, mutual benefit and win-win situation. Both sides should continue to firmly support each other in pursuing a development path that is in line with their own national conditions, and firmly support each other's core interests and major concerns. Take the signing of the "Belt and Road" cooperation plan as an opportunity to strengthen the docking of development strategies, jointly build the "Belt and Road" with high quality, deepen traditional cooperation in economy, trade, infrastructure and other fields, cultivate new growth poles for cooperation in clean energy, digital economy, scientific and technological innovation and other fields, and make Chile a bridgehead for China and Latin America to jointly build the "Belt and Road" with high quality. China is willing to strengthen the exchange of experience in governance and governance with Chile, share successful practices in poverty eradication, green transformation, environmental protection, and other areas. We welcome more high-quality Chilean agricultural products and characteristic commodities to enter the Chinese market, encourage Chinese enterprises to participate in major Chilean project construction cooperation, and strengthen Chinese language teaching and local cooperation with Chile, facilitate personnel exchanges, and consolidate the public opinion foundation of China Chile relations. Strengthen cultural exchanges, promote mutual learning among civilizations, and set an example in implementing global civilization initiatives. China and Chile are both countries of the global South. China is willing to strengthen communication and cooperation with Chile within the framework of the United Nations, the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation, and other organizations, to safeguard the unity and cooperation of developing countries, and to defend true multilateralism and free trade. China attaches great importance to the development of China Latin America relations and appreciates the positive contributions made by Chile to promoting the development of China Latin America relations and the construction of the China Latin America and Caribbean Community Forum. We hope that Chile will continue to play a unique role in promoting China Latin America cooperation.

President Boric said that it is my great honor to attend the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation and pay a state visit to China. Chile has created many firsts in the development of Latin American China relations, and the Chilean side is deeply proud. Chile highly appreciates Chinese civilization, admires and congratulates China on its great achievements in poverty reduction, anti-corruption and other aspects, and thanks China for its selfless help when Chile faces difficulties such as the COVID-19 epidemic. The Chilean side has always firmly adhered to the One China principle and will continue to provide firm support to China in various occasions. The initiative of co building the "Belt and Road" proposed by President Xi Jinping originates from China's traditional culture of more than 5000 years. Based on the principles of equality and mutual respect, it has become an important platform for countries around the world to carry out mutually beneficial cooperation and an important opportunity to achieve common development. The Chilean side speaks highly of it and will continue to actively participate. The Chilean side focuses on long-term thinking and planning for the development of relations with China. It hopes to take this visit as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation in fields such as environmental protection, poverty reduction, energy, technology, mining, etc., deepen cultural exchanges, welcome Chinese enterprises to invest and cooperate in Chile, and promote the development of Chilean China relations to a new stage of higher level development.

After the talks, the two heads of state jointly witnessed the signing of a number of bilateral cooperation documents in such fields as the joint construction of the "Belt and Road", development cooperation, industrial investment, digital economy, scientific and technological innovation, customs inspection and quarantine, agriculture, Antarctica, and small and medium-sized enterprise cooperation.

Both parties have issued the Joint Declaration of the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Chile.

Prior to the talks, President Xi Jinping held a welcome ceremony for President Boric in the North Hall of the Great Hall of the People, accompanying him to review the Chinese People's Liberation Army honor guard and watch the parade.
